The most reliable full meal inside the park. Mountain vegetables, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, hot pots and Taiwanese stir-fries. Vegetarian dishes available on request.

Inexpensive noodles and lunch in the Naromafei food area. Ask which noodles or vegetable dishes can be made vegetarian.

Budget meal or backup dinner. Simple Taiwanese comfort food and stir-fries - useful because quality choices inside the park are limited.

A proper local lunch alternative to bento. Wasabi chicken soup, mountain pork, mushrooms, vegetables and Hakka-style noodles.

Bitter-tea-oil chicken, wild boar, mountain vegetables, tofu with fresh Alishan wasabi and sesame-oil noodles. No reservations - arrive early.

Dedicated vegetarian home cooking: tofu, seasonal greens, bamboo shoots, rice and soup. Eggs appear on the menu, so vegans should specify no egg or dairy. Located up a steep lane.

The best serious tea tasting. Taste high-mountain oolong, Jin Xuan and black tea before buying. More tea producer than café; English-friendly and close to the Shizhuo tea trails.

Seasonal set lunch with home-grown tea, chayote shoots, local vegetables, wasabi and occasional wild-boar dishes. Tea tasting normally accompanies the meal. Booking is wise.

Worth the detour. Rustic platters, grilled meats, bread, fruit and South African-inspired dishes in Laiji Village. A striking change from Taiwanese food, but a substantial mountain-road detour, not near the park entrance.

Indigenous-run mountain café built with stone and timber. Go for the setting as much as the cup; try locally grown coffee.

Alishan tea, house coffee, tiramisu and cakes overlooking the mountains. A polished café option.

Award-winning-style Taiwanese coffee among the plantations. Choose hand-poured local beans; food selection is limited.

Knowledgeable hand-pour service, Alishan-grown beans, lemon tart and tiramisu. Sesame-oil chicken noodles are the signature savoury dish.

House-roasted Alishan beans, pour-over, espresso and cold brew in a nostalgic railway-side space.

Handmade wild aiyu jelly with seasonal fruit, lemon or plum. Dine-in only; no takeaway. A natural wild-aiyu specialist.

Chewy herbal rice cakes with savoury or sweet fillings. Excellent for the journey and naturally vegetarian depending on the filling - confirm before ordering.

Patisserie-style local dessert: tea-infused dorayaki, particularly honey-fragrant red oolong and red-bean versions. Not very sweet. Check opening days - currently limited.

Brown-sugar shaved ice with aiyu - particularly good in warm weather. Easier for takeaway than Uncle Aiyu's.
