Alishan 阿里山
High-mountain tea, railway bento and village coffee
Alishan is different from Taiwan's cities: the best food is distributed across the forest park, Fenqihu, Shizhuo/Leye tea country, and smaller mountain villages. Restaurants close early, and there is no genuine cocktail-bar scene. Everything below clears a hard 4.3 minimum on Google Maps, with for exceptional places with fewer than 500 reviews. Ratings are a snapshot checked on 9 September 2026 and will move.

If you only have one day, a strong sequence would be: Fenqihu Hotel bento for lunch, Uncle Aiyu's for dessert, Lin Yuan Tea Factory for high-mountain tea, Zou Coffee or Ming Xin Coffee for local coffee, and Shan Bin for dinner if sleeping inside the park.
- Shan Bin Restaurant - The most reliable full meal inside the park.
- Fenchihu Hotel - The iconic railway bento - pork or chicken lunchbox with rice, vegetables and egg.
- Jiejiao Yongfu - Bitter-tea-oil chicken, wild boar, mountain vegetables, tofu with fresh Alishan wasabi and sesame-oil noodles.
- Lin Yuan Tea Factory - The best serious tea tasting.
- FKUO - Seasonal set lunch with home-grown tea, chayote shoots, local vegetables, wasabi and occasional wild-boar dishes.
- Zou Coffee - Award-winning-style Taiwanese coffee among the plantations.
- Ming Xin Coffee - Knowledgeable hand-pour service, Alishan-grown beans, lemon tart and tiramisu.
- Uncle Aiyu's House - Handmade wild aiyu jelly with seasonal fruit, lemon or plum.
- Crossroads Grandma's Mugwort Cake - Chewy herbal rice cakes with savoury or sweet fillings.

Useful Alishan food notes
- Restaurants close early - many mountain businesses stop taking orders by 7–8 pm.
- A car makes it considerably easier to visit several stops in the Shizhuo/Leye area.
- Recheck opening days before driving: mountain businesses frequently close one or two weekdays, stop taking orders early, or operate by reservation.
- There is no qualifying cocktail-bar scene in the park, Fenqihu or Shizhuo area - plan cocktails for Chiayi City before or after the mountain portion.
- Vegetarian travellers: Bamboo Shoot is the only dedicated vegetarian restaurant. Shan Bin, Lele Garden, Jiejiao and FKUO can prepare vegetable dishes, but broths may not be vegetarian - confirm before ordering.
- No dedicated vegan restaurant in the immediate scenic area meets the 4.3 threshold with meaningful reviews.
Considered and left out
- No qualifying speakeasies or serious cocktail bars in the Alishan park, Fenqihu or Shizhuo area - hotel lounges may serve beer or basic mixed drinks, but none had a separate, sufficiently reviewed 4.3+ bar listing.
